The Sebai Village Toshao, Allister Daniels, and FSOs welcomed the FLEGT team from the Guyana Forestry Commission, as well as representatives from the EPA – Guyana, the Guyana_Revenue_Authority the National Insurance Scheme – Guyana, and the Ministry of Labour & Manpower Planning Guyana, on October 16. The team and agency representatives hosted a session with the community as part of efforts to strengthen participation by Indigenous forestry stakeholders through outreach initiatives that will support the successful implementation of the VPA, information processing, and knowledge sharing. A central focus is also on exchanging knowledge and addressing and responding to concerns among the community, GFC, and agencies.
Discussions centred on the sharing of information on the FLEGT VPA, including compliance requirements that FSOs must follow to operate on the local and EU markets, as Guyana moves towards licencing under the FLEGT VPA in 2026.
Individual support was also offered to stakeholders during the session by NIS, while relevant agencies addressed FSO queries. The EU-funded session was delivered by IICA Guyana and hosted by the FLEGT Secretariat, with support from agency representatives.
