In an effort to strengthen the participation of Indigenous forestry stakeholders through outreaches that will contribute to the VPA’s successful implementation, information processing and knowledge sharing, the FLEGT team from the Guyana Forestry Commission and representatives from the EPA – Guyana, the Guyana_Revenue_Authority, the @National Insurance Scheme – Guyana, and the Ministry of Labour & Manpower Planning Guyana hosted a session with the Deputy Toshao, members of the village council and several FSOs in Four Mile, Port Kaituma on October 15. This session formed part of previous sessions conducted in Kaburi Village, River’s View Village, Batavia Village and Karrau Village.
Discussions focused on information sharing regarding the FLEGT VPA, particularly the compliance requirements that FSOs must meet to access local and EU markets as Guyana advances toward FLEGT licensing in 2026. Central to the engagement, however, was the exchange of knowledge and concerns among the community, the GFC, and partner agencies, aimed at fostering greater understanding and collaboration in the implementation process.
Individual support was also offered to stakeholders during the session by NIS, while relevant agencies addressed FSO queries. The EU-funded session was delivered by IICA Guyana and hosted by the FLEGT Secretariat, with support from agency representatives.
