Guyana Timber Legality Assurance System
Supply Chain Controls ensure that timber products verified as legal remain legal throughout each stage of the chain. These controls also prevent verified legal products from being tainted by unverified products entering the chain.
Wood Tracking System
The Wood Tracking System (WBS) is the national system used by the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) to assess and verify FSOs’ compliance with the supply chain control requirements set out in the WTS requirements.
GTLAS is building upon this existing system which covers all sources of timber product flows in Guyana, including imports.
The WTS increases the transparency and credibility of Guyana’s forest sector, thereby contributing to improving its image on the national and international markets.
The WTS enables the GFC to:
- Collect accurate statistics on these flows, including timber production, processing and trade.
- Perform systematic and random field-based and desk-based verifications of FSOs’ activities and operations for the different control points:
- Field-based inspections of timber products assess and validate the FSOs’ compliance based on information submitted to the GFC at each critical control point of the supply chain.
- Desk-based verifications at the GFC headquarters enable regular reconciliations by analyzing data and information declared by the FSOs and collected by the GFC during field-based verifications for the different critical control points along the supply chain.
